Ipswich lawyers share career advice with local teachers

Careers leads from Ipswich secondary schools received free training on corporate careers from top 50 law firm Birketts and the Wolsey 550 Project. The session aimed to help teachers guide pupils interested in legal and business careers.

The big picture: The training session, held on 18 October, equipped local educators with insights into the corporate world, focusing on law careers but applicable to various business sectors.

Why it matters: This initiative bridged the gap between education and industry, potentially opening doors for Ipswich students interested in corporate careers.

Key details:

  • The free CPD session covered personal branding, commercial awareness, application processes, and opportunities in the legal sector.

  • Participants received digital resources to implement learnings in their schools.

  • The training was designed to be adaptable for students from Key Stage 2 onwards.

What they're saying:

  • Lizzy Ferguson, Early Careers Officer at Birketts: "We hope that passing this knowledge and experience on to the next generation of potential lawyers and business leaders will benefit them in pursuing their careers and ambitions."

  • Hannah Houghton, Education and Opportunities Lead with Wolsey 550: "We have designed content to be adaptable for any Key Stage (KS2+) or transition in a young person's educational journey. We're incredibly grateful to Birketts LLP for offering to run this unique event and I'm expecting it to be oversubscribed."

Worth noting: Birketts had already hosted workplace visits for year 10 students from Ipswich Academy and year 9 students from Chantry High School, giving them firsthand experience of a law firm environment.

The bottom line: This initiative highlighted the growing importance of industry-education partnerships in preparing Ipswich's youth for future careers.
