Ipswich.co.uk is the only free and independent local news publication for Ipswich. We report the stories that matter and champion the people and organisations making our town a better place.
Since launching last August, we've quickly become a trusted source of local news and information for thousands of residents who love our quality reporting, skimmable content and uninterrupted reading experience.
The role
This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join a local media business at the very start of its journey. It's a chance to shape a better future for local media and the town.
As a Community Impact Reporter, you will champion local charities, nonprofits and community groups in Ipswich and the surrounding areas.
This will include:
Producing news articles and editorial features on the activities and impact of local nonprofits and the businesses that support them
Managing relationships with press officers and communications teams
Uploading events to our What's On section
Promoting content on social media and encouraging others to do the same
The requirements
No formal qualifications are required, and training will be provided.
However, you must:
Have exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Be able to produce high-quality written content quickly and accurately
Be passionate about journalism and writing
Have a genuine desire to support and champion local nonprofits
Live within 10 miles of Ipswich and be very familiar with the town
Be able to quickly learn and use software, including content management systems and productivity tools
Own a computer or laptop and a smartphone
The package
Annual salary of £29,120 pro rata
12 hours per week
Fully remote
Flexible working hours
28 days annual leave, including bank holidays, pro rata
