A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to two years in prison for drug dealing and other offences just one month after his arrest near Ipswich.

The big picture: Alberto Deda was stopped by Suffolk Police's Sentinel South team on 12 July while driving a hire car in Capel St Mary.

The Sentinel teams provide enhanced coverage of Suffolk's road network to disrupt criminal activity and increase police visibility.

Key details:

  • Officers found 17 cocaine deals wrapped in black socks and £270 in cash

  • Deda used a false Ipswich address to hire the car and presented a counterfeit driving licence

  • His phone contained messages directing him to meetings with cocaine users

Deda pleaded guilty to:

  • Possession of cocaine with intent to supply

  • Possession of a counterfeit identity document with intent to deceive

  • Driving without a licence or insurance

What they're saying: Sergeant David Logan of the Sentinel team said: "We are pleased Deda was arrested, charged, convicted and jailed within a month. Our team exists to keep Suffolk residents safe from people like Deda and his cocaine-using customers who drive on our roads."

Logan added that Deda's customers "can expect to be drug wiped at the roadside soon."

How to help: Suffolk Police urge residents to report suspected drug activity via their website or by calling 101. Anonymous reports can be made to Crimestoppers online or by calling 0800 555 111.
