Suffolk residents aged 40-74 can now access free health checks to spot early warning signs of serious conditions. Here's what you need to know about eligibility and booking an appointment.
Why it matters: Early detection of health issues like heart disease, stroke, and dementia can lead to better outcomes through lifestyle changes and early intervention.
Who is eligible: Anyone aged 40-74 living in Suffolk without pre-existing conditions such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or irregular heartbeat.
How it works:
Health checks take 20-30 minutes
Eligible residents will receive text invitations
Those who haven't received an invite can book directly through the website
Everyone gets personalised advice about their health risks
What they're saying: "Even if you feel fine, just being over 40 raises the risk of being unwell. A free NHS health check can help you find out about any small problems before they become big," said Julie Smith from Suffolk GP Federation.
How to book: Visit www.suffolkfed.org.uk/healthcare-services/nhs-health-checks/ and follow the booking instructions on the website.
The bottom line: The free checks aim to catch potential health issues before they develop into serious conditions. Suffolk residents who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to book even if they haven't received a text invitation.
