Suffolk Police are searching for Daryl Taylor, a 33-year-old Ipswich man who escaped custody while receiving medical treatment at Ipswich Hospital. Taylor, who was wanted on recall to prison, had been charged with seven sexual offences before his escape.

The big picture: Taylor, who has links to the Chantry area of Ipswich and Hollesley, absconded from Ipswich Hospital at around 10pm on Sunday, 11 August.

Police have warned the public not to approach him and to call 999 immediately if they spot him.

Key details:

  • Taylor was initially arrested for breaching the terms of his licence after a July 2023 conviction for assault and attempting to pervert the course of justice

  • He escaped while receiving medical attention at Ipswich Hospital

  • Four people have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender

What they're saying: Superintendent Andy Martin said: "Whilst we recognise that this incident may cause concern to members of the public, I would like to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to locate and detain Daryl Taylor."

Description of the suspect:

  • White male, approximately 5ft 9in tall, stocky build

  • Short brown hair and beard

  • Tattoos on face, neck, arms and legs

  • Last seen wearing a black and grey North Face jumper and matching jogging bottoms, and black Adidas sliders

How to help: Anyone with information on Taylor's whereabouts should contact Suffolk Police on 999, quoting reference 45508/24.

Other information can be submitted online at www.suffolk.police.uk/tell-us or by calling 101.

The bottom line: Police stress that events like this are "extremely rare" but are investigating how the escape occurred. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings immediately.
