Police officers in Ipswich have begun developing a strategy to address street drinking, antisocial behaviour, and violent crime on Tavern Street. Multiple agencies are joining forces to find long-term solutions.

The big picture: A multi-agency approach is being implemented to tackle ongoing issues in one of Ipswich's main shopping areas.

Police have already conducted their first street meeting, engaging directly with:

  • Regular users of the area

  • Individuals identified as causing problems

  • Local community members

  • Multiple organisations are working together to find sustainable solutions.

  • The initiative aims to improve safety and reduce antisocial behaviour in the town centre.

Who's involved: Several agencies have joined the police initiative:

  • Ipswich Borough Council Anti-Social Behaviour team

  • Health Outreach workers

  • Housing First representatives

  • Rough Sleeper Outreach team

  • Mental health professionals

What's next: Police say residents can expect to see more officers in the Tavern Street area over the coming weeks as the plan comes to fruition.
