The final stage of Britain's biggest professional cycling race will take place in East Suffolk this September. The 158-kilometre route will run from Lowestoft to Felixstowe on 8 September.

The big picture: This marks the first time an entire stage of the Tour of Britain will be held solely within East Suffolk. The race, which passes through many market towns, is expected to benefit the area significantly and give fans in Ipswich a chance to see Olympic, world and Tour de France champions a stone's throw away from their doorstep.

  • The finish line is on Sea Road in Felixstowe, where Wout van Aert won last year

What they're saying:

  • Cllr Seamus Bennett, East Suffolk Council's assistant cabinet member: "This is the first time an entire stage of the Tour of Britain will be held solely within East Suffolk, which is wonderful for the district as national sporting events such as this brings huge benefits to the area."

  • Rod Ellingworth, Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Race Director: "This year's final stage of the Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men is deceptive, with plenty of challenges to overcome before our 2024 champion can be crowned on Sea Road in Felixstowe."
