The Ipswich Taxis Alliance is seeking to block the newly-approved £1.4m Lloyds Avenue transformation through traffic regulation challenges, despite widespread support for the project from residents and town centre businesses.
Suffolk Highways has withdrawn its objections to plans to redevelop Lloyd's Avenue which will halve the number of taxi spaces, sparking fierce criticism from drivers.
A programme of road and pavement improvements across Ipswich town centre will begin on Monday 27 January. The works will cover 11 locations, including Westgate Street, Princes Street, St Nicholas' Street, the Waterfront and bus station areas.
